Game Tales Grandma turned out to be the most vicious party member 🤣

So I ran A Perilous Joy Festival (free one shot available online) for my kids, husband and mom. When my mom came over to make her character, she said she didn't want to fight, so she rolled up a halfling bard and focused on healing spells. When it came time to play, she was not really in to it... Until... There was an enemy, prone and dying. It was my mom's turn, and she asked, "Can I stomp on her head? Because that's what I would do." I said heck yes, the enemy died to a halfling stomping on her head, and suddenly Grandma was all in!!

It was extra hilarious bc my mom's a retired nurse, and was very clinical about her attacks, to the point of specifying which artery she was cutting 🤣

I got one of my white whales for Christmas thanks to my uncle. He has been playing since advanced D&D and it part of the reason that I started to get interested in the game. Can’t wait to crack these open and try to get a game together with some friends!

Art [OC] Aasimar Paladin/Fighter Relic Hunter

Post image
Upvotes

More concept art for a (possible) PC!

This time around an Aasimar Oath of Vengeance/Fighter multiclass relic hunter. He serves as a party face and a reliable versatile frontliner. Personality wise they're someone who became really selfish after being put in a role they didn't really want. The idea for their growth in game is coming out of that shell and learning to trust others as well! Their personality is very sociable, he's just very scared of letting loose and getting hurt again :D

Just to clarify - he doesn't care about pronouns/how he's referred. The concept is around someone who's very beautiful to the point they can appeal to just about anyone!

Misc Tips for making dice more legible? [OC]

Post image
178 Upvotes

Hi all, Merry Christmas (or a seasonally appropriate greeting of your choosing)!

My wife got me a beautiful set of Illithid-themed metal dice from DnDice for Christmas (I'll try to add a picture of the whole set in the comments), but unfortunately they're not very at-a-glance legible when I roll them. It takes some moving around and squinting to read the number, especially if the light catches them.

How would you touch them up to make them more legible? I'm thinking a small amount of matte black paint inside the numbers - or is there a better way?

Thank you in advance, dice-loving friends.

Art My Girlfriend made me the gift of a lifetime. [OC] [Art]

Look at what my girlfriend made! She's never worked in this medium before! I told her she's not allowed to gift me anything for the next decade so I can catch up in gift giving favor. I feel like the luckiest person on the planet.

I've been working on/running a homebrew campaign for about 2 years now, it's my baby, I can't think of anything I'm more proud of working on in my life, I've put probably thousands of hours into character creation, world building, and story making. I hope one day I can publish it as a module.

The main conflict is between a city and an unrelenting myconid army, a low intensity war fought for hundreds of years when the party arrives. And a huge mystery is constantly in the background, once a week a pillar of flames visible for hundreds of miles bursts from a "dormant" volcano in the center of the island causing an instant storm to roll in...but somehow no one in the city, on that same island, has noticed the pillar of flames?

Also the dm screen has velcro to switch the center panel for future campaigns so she can make more little windows into my worlds.

I cried. I have never been gifted something this great in all my days.

Tl:dr I made a campaign, the main hooks are a myconid army, and a pillar of flames from a mountain. My girlfriend hand made and painted everything. She's THE best.

DMing [OC] Be the change you want to see

Post image

Former player here. I used to play in a group of some old friends with constant amount of pressure, drinking, half assed session planning. dnd was fun up until certain aspects. Nevertheless I always saw the short falls of that group and I couldn’t help but think of ways the set and setting could be improved. 3 years later I’m now a DM running a home brew campaign with 6-7 players and everything keeps falling into place. Scheduling, rp, story line, outside and inside game fun. Be the change you want to see!

5th Edition Anachronistic sorcerer references in Stranger Things 5 Spoiler

Does it bother anyone else every time the Stranger Things season 5 script references sorcerers compared to wizards, when DnD didn’t include sorcerers until 3e (2000) and the show is set in the late 80’s?

DMing [OC] DM'd a game for my niece and nephews, their first DnD game!

Post image
290 Upvotes

It was a resounding success! They picked it up very quickly. I had to do very little explaining on how the game worked, it was pretty intuitive for them in terms of understanding about interacting with the world around them. One of the funnier moments is they went into a tavern kitchen and immediately asked of there was ingredients for tacos. A successful investigation check revealed indeed there was taco ingredients, so they paused mid game to see who could make the best taco. One of my nephews rolled a nat 20 so he made the best taco thats ever been made, dubbed "The Greatest Taco" lol. I asked if they were going to eat it, but they decided to save it, and very cleverly used it later in the campaign as leverage against an enemy guarding a passageway to bribe him with it to let them through, and it worked! That was a proud DnD uncle moment for sure lol

I was so happy they wanted to play and stuck it through the whole one-shot without quitting early. I would have been totally okay with them getting distracted but they really liked playing. I let them keep their tokens and character sheets, and will be making another one-shot for next time we see each other. This was a great christmas gift to be able to share this game with them.

Resources The Ultimate Phylactery Safeguard

Be lich.

Make phylactery. Doesn’t matter what it is.

Put phylactery in most random spot you can think of.

Use a Modify Memory spell or something to destroy all memories of it.

People cannot find it, nor even know what it looks like, because you yourself don’t know anything about it. Good luck PCs!

Is this actually something a lich could do?

Out of Game You get 5 level 1 prepared spells and 1 spellslot a day. What do you choose?

We had this discussion after our Christmas game yesterday and I was curious what the community says. For Christmas your almighty DM grants you some real life magic. 5 Level 1 Prepared spells of a class of you choosing (we did 5.5 but idc). And you have 1 spellslot a day. All components mus be adhered to. No magic items, no class features, just you and a spell list. Which do you choose and what do you do?

Looked up our list and we settled on the bard list for:

Cure wounds Speak with animals Animal friendship Unseen servant Comprehend languages

Art [OC] [ART] Turkic Mythology Inspired Warlock OC by @jahzzyfact

Post image
10 Upvotes

Meet Kanzhar, one of the main characters of my Tortqulaq universe; deeply inspired by Turkic mythology and d&d-style storytelling.

In short: He's a warlock, assembled from the remnants of dark servants by his patron; he exists without a past, without a soul, without a stable sense of self, even without a name that truly belongs to him. His human form is merely a vessel; an animated shell carrying the weight of countiess erased lives, filled with echoes that were never his.

When creating OCs, I often draw inspiration from mythology, cultural memory (especially Central Asian/Turkic myth, shamanism, animism), and the gray areas between gods, belief and humanity.

Did you take inspiration from your own culture or a specific mythology when creating your OC? I’d genuinely enjoy discovering different cultural influences and perspectives, soooo love to hear about it. Tell me your process, your influences, whatever you feel like sharing. ^^
