Does it matter? This buffoon is just going to say something like “It was the most watched speech in the history of speeches. Many people are saying it was better than Gettysburg. “ and the idiots are going to believe it.

I can’t wait for the grown ups to be back in charge.

u/Omophorus 3h ago

It does matter to an extent.

He can say whatever he wants, and he's surely going to.

The idiots had an opportunity to tune in and watch him, but couldn't actually be bothered to do it.

CBS has become his complete patsy and they already edited his monologue from 12 minutes to 2 for what went to air because they knew the full ramble wasn't going to keep eyeballs.

The media has been tame and complicit because he brought in ratings and because his agenda has been aligned with their new billionaire owners' ideas on how to line their own pockets.

He's not drawing eyeballs and his policies aren't working for anyone.

I'm not naive enough to think there's going to be any sort of pivot, but the amount of free, sanewashed air time he gets is directly related to how profitable that airtime is for the networks.

In the short run, the less he's on TV, the better. It won't deprogram the cultists, but it's still an indication that his brand is losing its shine. There isn't an obvious populist demagogue in the wings waiting to take over for him and keep driving the wannabe-oligarchs' agenda.

Things are in a shitty place and still likely to get worse in the short term and the long term, but the more the dumpster fire self-sabotages, the more likely it is for a window to open to make corrections in a direction that benefit more Americans.

Agree. I haven't gotten anywhere close to optimism yet, but I'm the closest to believing that we may survive this than I've been in a very long time, for all the reasons you've stated.

u/Toidal 2h ago

They're doing their damnedest to shore up Vance/Kirk as the next big thing. Though it sounds like Nicki Minaj and Russell Brand are throwing a wrench into things.

38

u/mcloofus 2h ago

Exactly. They're trying to create something that doesn't already exist.

Probably telling that the most consequential Republicans of the last 50 years were stars on the screen before entering politics. Charisma is so critical to how all this works.

22

u/Lazer726 59m ago

They're trying to find someone that gets as much love as Trump, for some god forsaken reason, does. And that person just doesn't exist. Trump going down is going to be like how every death of a mob boss is described, where everyone makes a mad grab for power in the vacuum. But no one is going to manage it, and at that point, we're far more likely to have people come out and talk about how awful he was as a person and leader to attempt to distance themselves from the inevitable fallout.

Now we just have to hope that natural causes hurry the fuck up.

22

u/jupiterkansas 1h ago

They don't have policies to sell people on. They just hateful personalities.

They're doing their damnedest to shore up Vance/Kirk as the next big thing.

Which I love this for them. Vance is so incredibly unpopular that he couldnt even talk to a fucking rock. Even die hard MAGAs are iffy on Vance - he doesnt have the cult of personality needed.

And the Erika thing is so funny, you have a brand that is built on not liking women telling them what to do. Her viewership on metrics that arent controlled by TurningPoint clearly show how much viewership she is losing.

So really, you got Peter Thiels skin suit and someones whose only claim to fame is that her husband was killed.

Trump is an idiot, but he had his name everywhere and in gold. Morons love that shit, they think thats the coolest thing ever.

You folks are more optimistic than I would dare to be. I think it's underestimating their craven ability they've demonstrated time and time again, that there is no bottom. They will rally around whoever the oligarchs pick to use their propaganda networks as their platform.

Everyone acts like Trump has some kind of Midas touch and it's not him, it never has been. It's the network of propaganda that holds him up. From Facebook to X to Bezos to Rupert Murdoch's army of flying monkeys to major TV networks kissing the ring like CBS. They are the ones who control the narrative. Take out Trump and it's all still there. They will likely put in someone far worse and posts like the one I responded to will be at a loss to how they didn't see it coming.

43

u/Khiva 2h ago

Disagree. People who aren’t in on a con see con men as clowns or charlatans. But the effective con artists know their audience, and you ain’t it.

Everyone understimates the political strength of this guy, because they see the con. But he is genuinely a generational talent - a con man bred perfectly for the age of informational silos, sound bites, both sides media and the outrage economy. His ability to read a crowd and feed it red meat with a brazen disregard for the consequences is unprecedented.

People underestimate his charisma because to them he has negative charisma.

But that underestimates how many people barely pay attention, and underestimates how many people are very, very stupid.

Which is very, very dangerous.

21

u/Different_East7854 2h ago

What's most dangerous about the current state of things, is all in the soft power realm.

We are seriously setting up the economy for failure long term. (I know it looks great when "stock go up" but economics is a bit more complex.)

We are losing all of our soft power overseas. This is really, even more than military, where all of our influence has come for generations.

We are losing human capital (mass deportations of a huge working population)

We are creating an oligarchy (yay Russian system!)

"But that underestimates how many people barely pay attention, and underestimates how many people are very, very stupid." This is correct.

3

u/Jaxyl 1h ago

The other side of this is that their entire machine falls apart without him, as has been shown time and time again since 2016. He IS the Republican party now and when he isn't there they get zero support. The modern day Republican voter isn't a party voter, they're a Trump voter; specifically Donald Trump.

When anyone else goes up to bat they destroy them instantly because Trump built his entire empire off of his insane charisma and distrust in Washington so it's no surprise that the wet blankets that make up most of Washington can't fill his charismatic shoes and that's before we start tackling the level of distrust from voter to politician.

2

u/CyberRax 55m ago

While you're 100% correct regarding the voting, I kind of doubt that Trump's name will lose all it's power once his gone. And conservatives know this. They'll ensure that the next frontman will use "TRUMP!" as his battlecry and enough voters will follow. Maybe begrudgingly, maybe complaining how he's very little like the real Trump, but at the end of the day they'll go "Well, he's doing what Trump would have done (as he's been telling us over and over), and we can't let those damn democrats destroy DJT's legacy, so I'll vote for him"...

This is why the real fight has to be as local as possible, for all of us. They can do what they want at a federal level, but you can't make every last official a corrupt one. The foot soldiers gumming up the gears are the ones state level and lower. They are not nearly competent enough to take on all of us.

8

u/mcloofus 2h ago

First, please understand that I was vocal in 2015 about my fears that we would be exactly where we are if this disgusting piece of shit got elected. I have not been surprised by anything that has happened and, _again_ , and I am nowhere close to being optimistic that everything will be hunky dory when this guy is finally gone. I merely said that we might survive this, and by "we" I mean an American electorate who will at least continue to have the opportunity to choose between the lesser of two evils at the voting booth on a regular basis.

The will has always been there, yes, but trump is the way. All of this requires a charismatic thug, because even an aspiring totalitarian regime requires some buy-in from the electorate and someone who genuinely lacks any human empathy whatsoever. Take Stephen Miller. He is exactly the kind of soulless ghoul to shape policy and get nasty work done behind the scenes, but is literally anyone going to vote for a creep like that for any public office? Will legislators line up to lick _his_ boots? Hell no. Nobody's wearing a stupid red hat for JD Vance. No tech billionaire is going to act like an absolute jackass on stage for Ron DeSantis.

As the person _I_ responded to said, that next "obvious populist demagogue" doesn't currently exist. My concern has always been that trump would learn from the mistakes of his first term, survive long enough to get the Death Star fully operational, and then hand the keys over to Baron or maybe some other, yet-to-be-identified successor.

But his dementia is readily apparent, he's overplaying his hand (defacing the White House, naming stuff after himself, etc), he's alienated military leadership (see: the Hegseth debacle when he assembled all the generals), the Epstein stuff actually seems to be starting to stick a little, the economy still sucks ass and nobody knows it more than the people he allegedly gave a voice to in 2016, and he's even starting more of the wars that the lemmings somehow believed he would end.

Yes, the oligarchs and bigots and bigoted oligarchs will still exist, but they won't be able to operate like they want to without a figurehead. There's a reason things exploded as soon as "they" got their guy. Yes, it will happen again, and yes, this country will remain profoundly problematic in the interim. But the hope that I am regaining is that we will at least get to help mitigate its flaws at the voting booth. That's all.

21

u/Harbinger2001 3h ago

You may survive it but make no mistake - the quarter century of American world leadership is over. The next 4 years will make that even more apparent. Allies no longer listening to you and rival powers passing you technologically.

9

u/GandalfSwagOff 2h ago

This doesn't land on most Americans like you think it does. Americans, on an individual level, don't care if other leaders listen to our leader. Most Americans can barely afford to put food on the table and our healthcare expenses are bankrupting our finances. We don't care if we are, "1st place leader yay everyone listen to our great ideas!" We don't care if allies aren't listening to us so long as they aren't bothering us. Most Americans are financially on the edge of collapse.

Saying that American leadership is "over" doesn't mean anything. You're from a nation that isn't in that leadership position, but you seem fine...so why would Americans care if they lose it too?

I understand what you are saying but your message only lands on the upper-middle class or the wealthy in America. They are the only ones who care about America's leadership.

7

u/Harbinger2001 2h ago

And I don’t care if “most Americans” don’t care. The loss of world leadership will make social issues in America even worse as the wealth that used to pour into the country drops significantly to go elsewhere.

The BBC got sued for 10 billion dollars when they edited Trump for runtime.

CBS will obviously now be sued for the same reason.

8

u/trwawy05312015 2h ago

he has control over CBS, there's no need for him to sue

3

u/RadarSmith 1h ago

That’s exactly why he’d sue them: he knows they’ll cave.

Trying to appease Trump doesn’t work: it only encourages him.

The damage will go on and on for decades regardless. We're so screwed.

3

u/jupiterkansas 1h ago

The only truly shocking thing he could do at this point is talk and act like a rational and caring human being.

4

u/neddiddley 2h ago

If there’s ever going to be a pivot, it’s not going to be led by the idiots in red hats. It’s going to be from his supporters in the government (whether elected, appointed) and CEOs. And it’s going to come from a realization that his coattails are no longer big enough to carry enough GOPers to majorities in the House, Senate and purple state legislatures.

Its really sad that we're craving a return to the usual corruption and stagnation of our government now that we've tried the clown car approach to governance.

42

It is a clown car, that clown car is fueled by seething hateful racists who vote and they're not bashful about it either.

u/Khiva 2h ago

I’m actually very willing to hear out a candidate in the next Dem primary willing to talk about a massive overhaul to the system.

The Supreme Court has nuked its legitimacy. I used to be sympathetic to institutionalists, but history and events have proven them naive. Pack it.

DeMAGAfication, top to bottom, a DOJ packed with anti-Garlands - that’s the shit that gets my blood pumping.

And I think I’m far from alone.

Turns out the solution to corruption is not to elect the most corrupt guy in the country. Who could have predicted this?

13

u/schlamster 3h ago

What I’m really excited for is when (if?) dems ever take over the government again we get to hear about:

ITS TIME TO HEAL

Aka “we did nothing to stop anything Trump did, and actually we have more in common with him then we do with you peasants, so we’re going to do exactly Jack and exactly shit to hold anyone accountable. Oh actually no wait we will token crucify a couple people who trump already identified to be made examples of to give the appearance of justice (probably hegeseth and bondi). Fuck you, have a nice day”

All these people online who have justice boners thinking that there’s going to be some great day of reckoning are going to be very sorely disappointed.

5

u/twisty125 2h ago

I guess I'm just wondering, does this defeatist attitude help? Going in with negativity tends to not help anything

On the other hand, this also reads like a Trump bot trying to make people feel more apathetic to voting doesn't it

9

u/BootsToYourDome 2h ago

Nah they're pretty bang on because it already happened once with Trump and it could easily happen again.

The same goes for folks who believe that the US will gain any sort of foothold on the global stage again, in regards to credibility, reputation, and general standing.

Those dreamers are in for a rough awakening.

3

u/Khiva 2h ago

The world will never trust that another Trump won’t emerge to tear up every agreement unless significant systemic overhauls are undertaken.

Of course the median voters cares nothing for this. They will vote on prices alone. But deliver them salvation from economic pressure and there is carte Blanche to rebuild.

If they take it. If.

2

u/ValiumBlues Not Quite My Tempo 2h ago

Trump has shown the rest of the world that agreements and laws don’t matter, and the world has taken notice.

That systemic overhaul sounds amazing in theory, but I doubt it’ll happen.

Those idiots still vote. They're the reason we're in this mess in the first place.

2

u/gatoaffogato 1h ago

We’re in this mess because of them and the tens of millions of lazy or disenfranchised voters who don’t bother to show up.

The majority of MAGA are a lost cause. Non-voters and extremely low-information voters are who the Dems need to target.

I've read really great take on how propaganda works. It said that it doesnt work in a sense, when you realize you are being influenced by propaganda. Rather it works in a way where you stop caring what is truth or what is not. And if you allow it to become part of the established society, there is hard way coming back. People will start question even universal facts.

3

u/Hairy_Mycologist_945 2h ago

What matters most is that even his sycophantic fan base is dwindling and very few want anything to do with him. His influence and power peaked and he's declining. He's increasingly seen as a problem even by members of his own administration.

u/nonamenolastname 3h ago

I cringe when he says something he thinks is funny or witty (and never is) and then pauses...

47

u/Kalinka777 3h ago

It’s horrifying. The second he opens his mouth, you know it’s just the same bs - lies about how great he is.

54

u/Elastichedgehog 3h ago

If you listen to him enough you'll know he just hits the same points over and over and over every time he speaks publicly.

I hate the man, but go look at some videos from 10 years ago compared to now and you'll see the cognitive decline in real time. He used to be a pretty good speaker, albeit much of it was still bullshit.

43

u/HorrorSmile3088 2h ago

Yeah, there was a certain charisma to him before. It was still obnoxious, but even if I hated him I could find myself chuckling a certain quips, and could recognize he was good at keeping people's attention and pointing them in the direction he wanted

The few times I have forced myself to listen to him now, he just sounds tired, angry and lost. Biden may have stumbled his words more, but he never seemed to lose track of what he was talking about.

I do think Biden was too old to run again, but he still seems leagues better than Trump in terms of mental acquity

1

u/SwordfishOk504 1h ago

It's a random online claim that was made years ago that is being presented as fact to distract you from what is actually being released in the Epstein files (and the numerous Trump stuff that has been redacted from them). There is zero reason to believe the claim is true, it was part of a large file of documents from several years ago full of random claims like that. You're being conned and distracted with it. The goal is to discredit the actual files with that kind of unsubstantiated nonsense.

17

u/EmpTully 47m ago

This.

I’m so sick of hearing about it. I don’t like Trump at all, but so many people here are willing to take a completely unsubstantiated tip as, at the very least, compelling evidence of wrongdoing. It’s not—it’s just a tip.

Trump deserves jail time for dozens of different things that we know, for a fact, that’s he actually done.

A tip is just a tip.

6

u/jupiterkansas 1h ago

This is clickbait and we all fell for it; as a Irish tabloid with little reputation for truth telling I am surprised how often accounts post their articles across Reddit.

This is a weird subject for r/music…

I’d like to have one sub not packed with everything the orange man does.

2

u/Shurigin 3h ago

I’m glad nobody wants to watch an old pedophile

2

u/f1rstman 3h ago

There was a Kennedy Center speech?

2

u/Dallascansuckit 2h ago

“Dealt another humiliating blow.”

Jesus Christ, this really is just bread and circuses for you people too isn’t it?

2

u/Klick8986 1h ago

There was a speech?

5

u/NoStill7049 1h ago

What does this have to do with music? Why is an Irish paper writing about the American president? When are redditors gonna admit that they're more obsessed with Trump than even he is about himself?

4

u/PM_ME_TRICEPS 2h ago

Oh no!!! He's been humiliated!!!

3

u/Sensitive_Break5798 2h ago

… then bombed another country to demonstrate his awesome power

2

u/SweeTTomatoSauce 3h ago

Turns out booking a speech isn't the same as selling out a rally.

3

u/collikassi 1h ago

Why is this put in a music related subreddit? with this many upvotes?

1

u/cataquarkk 3h ago

do you really think his crew is telling him the truth and not the opposite?

1

u/Kidofthecentury 3h ago

I bet even the most right wing people are tired of the endless "the left wing lunatics yada yada" kind of "speech". I mean, it's Christmas time and probably they already have to listen to their elderly relatives' rant, last thing I'd want is another one on TV.

1

u/OppositeEagle 3h ago

I stopped listening to his bullshit, but keep a close watch on what he does.

1

u/cscottjones87 3h ago

Fake news. It was the most viewed speech in history. The biggest crowds. The turnout was tremendous.

1

u/coke71685 3h ago

I don't care, do you?

1

u/Roxpaperscissors 3h ago

Hate this guy.

1

u/not-on-your-nelly 3h ago

I’m starting to think that the US and Russia are aligned in their new mottos: “…and then it got worse.”

1

u/USA_A-OK 3h ago

I promise he'll never know about it.

1

u/toddles822 Spotify 3h ago

He hates the arts. He's fine with this.

1

u/Extension_Matter_794 3h ago

His numbers show that the most people named Donald Trump watched his speech ever. He will shorten it to the most people watched his speed ever

1

u/relientkenny 3h ago

i don’t ever pay attention to a single word he says.

1

u/Sprinklypoo 3h ago

Oh I'm sure he's lying about it already...

1

u/beuhring 2h ago

Not humiliating. He doesn’t care.

1

u/Fantastic_Shaman9230 2h ago

What a loser lol... only thing worse is a MAGA voter.

1

u/Our_National_Debt 2h ago

Everything this scumbag says is a lie.. he needs to crawl in a hole and die.

1

u/Bishopkilljoy 2h ago

Nah, his people didn't tell him that. They told him it was inspirational and worthy of medals. They told him nobody has ever done such a performance.

I genuinely believe Trump believes the economy is great because he's only shown the statistics that make him look good.

His policies could have burned an orphanage down and killed 50 children and they'd tell him "you're so effective, you got 50 children off the streets"

1

u/dendrivertigo 2h ago

If his lips are moving, he's lying

1

u/lpenos27 2h ago

You must be reading fake news. According to Trump the audience was the largest in the history of the Center. People were lined up waiting to get in.

1

u/ProposalLeading9606 2h ago

Maybe ignoring him would be a way to get back.

1

u/Fit_Bag1607 2h ago

Who’d watch that asshole besides his cult and most of them, well most of them……

1

u/shirubanet 2h ago

It’s not a blow. It’s strategy. Make everything he is publicly saying irrelevant and work in the shadows…

1

u/RDAM60 2h ago

Poor ratings eventually leads to cancelation. It’s the way of the world. Sorry, Donny.

1

u/Fit_Bag1607 2h ago

The issue will be in the recovery which will take generations

1

u/dendrivertigo 2h ago

He'll lie and say "It was the greatest and most-watched speech in the history of the country"

1

u/hyperforms9988 2h ago

People can only take the same old shit for so long before it becomes pointless to continue listening to it... even for his supporters. Remember when folks made fun of the amount of people going to his rallies on the campaign trail versus the number of asses in seats for Harris? How'd the election end up working out? One candidate was completely new and had months to campaign and the other's been droning on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, for longer than 4 years about the same old shit, and there's only so many times you can listen to it before it's no longer "must-see" TV or "must-hear" speech. He's been dominating the news cycles for practically a decade plus. People are either thoroughly sick of it, or they support him but they've heard all of this stuff before multiple times over.

1

u/DivideJolly3241 2h ago

The buffoon is such a spoiled child.

1

u/MiddayClimax 2h ago

The resistance is in shambles if they feel the need to post about TV ratings like Trump does about CNN.

1

u/thesimpletoncomplex 2h ago

Trump dealt another blow? I guess Bubba was in town.

1

u/tom-of-the-nora 2h ago

When did that happen?

1

u/Kohltrain37 2h ago

If you can’t wait like most of us what do you think is the best thing to get them in charge sooner rather than later? The lives destroyed this year are going to be multiplied next year before theres ever an election to get a few more adults in the room. Not in charge, just in the room.

1

u/PostMaster-P 2h ago

It doesn’t hurt his feelings at all, because through his eyes he saw the most successful event in the history of the venue.

1

u/supermansquito 2h ago

How'd he have time for a speech, with all the shit posting he did the last 2 days?

1

u/Latter-Possibility 2h ago

What was the threshold here for viewership?

1

u/DougOfWar 2h ago

No worries, if televised, his funeral will set viewership records globally.

1

u/leeekslap 2h ago

Pedophile Woman Man Camera TV

1

u/Ok-Chance-7638 2h ago

Last time he begged for my attention he wasted my time ranting about Biden

1

u/-Malky- 2h ago

2.65m with Trump vs 4.1m with Queen Latifah in 2024... and 8.6m with Stephen Colbert the last year he hosted the honors.

1

u/Horror-Temporary3584 2h ago

I didn't watch it. Nor have I ever watched a Kennedy Center speech. Nor have I ever watched a Kennedy Center performance. Guess the leftie were the only one watching and they don't like Trump.

1

u/Bewjlicious 2h ago

Time to fire the people who keep track of ratings.

1

u/benkenobi5 2h ago

Is there even a point to tuning in? I can summarize pretty much every speech I’ve ever heard from this guy right now; “I’m the best, everything good is because of me, everything bad is because of Biden. Democrats are enemies and scum, fuck anyone who doesn’t like me”.

1

u/Own-Fun-4041 2h ago

CBS=Caved to Bully’s Sh!t!

1

u/johncandy1812 2h ago

He hates the organization. He wants to see it crash and burn. He's happy about all this.

1

u/Sweatytubesock 2h ago

Worst ratings ever. Pathetic. Even more pathetic that he was best friends and running buddy with notorious sex trafficker and pedo Jeffrey Epstein for 15 of his prime salad day years.

1

u/kayak_2022 2h ago

LOOK MAGAS IT WAS THE LEAST WATCHED. CRY ME SOME SALTY MAGA TEARS, BOYYYEEEES!!!

1

u/Burnt_and_Blistered 2h ago

Good.

But I’m skeptical they’ll tell him

1

u/TehMephs 2h ago

He did a speech? Oh. K

1

u/Unusual_Performer_15 2h ago

Maybe, just MAYBE, this is the thing that finally humbles him /s

1

u/Expert_Cub4637 2h ago

This kind of shit is irrelevant to fascism. It doesn't care if Trump gets low ratings, why the fuck does anyone spend a single second giving a fuck about rating. LOCK IN PEOPLE THE COUNTRY IS ALREADY TAKEN OVER

1

u/CouchHam 2h ago

I can’t even want to learn how to know about his speeches

1

u/SGT-JamesonBushmill 2h ago

Wasn’t it the first speech by a president at the Kennedy Center Awards?

1

u/ChipCob1 2h ago

He's so egotistical that he probably thinks that over here in the UK the Boxing Day trumps are about him!

1

u/Sex_Offender_4697 2h ago

"humiliating?" no one fucking cares, get him out of office then we can talk about "humiliating"

1

u/toriemm 2h ago

This is why he stayed up late and was threatening actual late night hosts that people still watch.

1

u/DoDah-Man 2h ago

Socrates said it best. "Strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, weak minds discuss people." Trump is a weak man-boy.

1

u/Bluekatz1 2h ago

Billions of people on earth and beyond watched!

1

u/Practical_Smell_4244 2h ago

if you watch it it mesns a atom of pride rises omg be careful 💔

1

u/sihaya09 2h ago edited 2h ago

He wasn't dealt shit. Nobody on his team is going to tell him this. They're going to say whatever strokes his ego.

1

u/PreparationHot980 2h ago

To be fair, we probably should be paying attention simply because everything he says puts us at risk.

1

u/ab_90 2h ago

The Chinese Trump is funnier

1

u/bigredthesnorer 2h ago

He will be told that it had the highest viewership of any Kennedy center event. Ever. Nobody in history has ever had so big an audience.

1

u/Sproketz 2h ago

I mean. Why would anyone want to take their time to listen to this guy's assmouth fart?

1

u/N0SF3RATU 2h ago

"...so far"

-Homer Simpson

1

u/TrojanHorse45 2h ago

What a loser!

1

u/grifeweizen 2h ago

What does this have to do with music?

1

u/jadedfan55 2h ago

People outside the MAGA bubble are tired of hearing and reading about Orange Narcissus (Trump). There was something better to watch than him that night, so.....!

1

u/JohnBPrettyGood 2h ago

Apparently viewership was higher before the TV was invented

1

u/Warm_Ad_3067 2h ago

“Fake news”, says the shit spewing traffic cone
