Conservative Cringe Trump spent Christmas Eve with billionaire donors at Mar-a-lago, Obama spent it surprising kids at a children's hospital.

There really is no comparison between the two. If you want objective, undeniable evidence that Fox News and conservative pundits are paid propagandists who would sell their soul to the highest bidder with zero loyalty to this country just look at how they covered Obama versus Trump over the years. It may seem obvious but there are millions in this country who still don't get it.

There’s no comparison with Obama and anybody. That’s why the DNC floundered after him. Dude was a once in a generation orator
85
u/iheartxanadu 3h ago edited 3h ago
And he came basically right after Bill Clinton, who was also INCREDIBLY charismatic and great at bringing energy to crowds ETA; I bring up Clinton solely to show that the DNC may have assumed they had charisma in the bag with ANY Dem, ignoring that Dems lucked into having 2 exceptionally charismatic leaders and just whiffed finding more leaders like them to take the mantle

Bernie was the way to go. He had the charisma, the intelligence, the passion, the plan. Too bad he scared them shitless because he would actually put in policies that would help people and hurt the billionaire class and corporations.
Edit: a bunch of people are telling me Bernie isn’t charismatic. I think I’ve been schooled on my personal definition of charisma.
What’s a better word to mean sheer force of will that is magnetizing to people? He has this energy that he combines with righteous indignation that is very galvanizing. That’s what I mean by charisma. What’s a better word to use?
Has charisma changed in its meaning? I’m gonna send this edit to everyone that disagreed with my definition to try and learn.

As a non-American, I am baffled that anyone finds Bernie Sanders that radical and also that it could possibly be acceptable for him to be the presidential candidate for a party he isn't part of.

He's considered a radical only because he lives in a land just barely left of hunting the homeless and LGBQ for sport.

He's not the radical...AmeriKans are this ignorant. It took me a few years to warm up to Bernie and I agree, he makes so much logical, economic and political sense it hurts. We LOVE our cult of personality here in AmeriKa and hiring a shitty reality star was icing on the cake.
If you are not familiar with a the movie A Face in the Crowd, I highly recommend it.

He doesn’t have the charisma, but that’s part of what I personally liked about him as a candidate. He has been making decisions on good data for a long time, and I think that’s what’s needed. Not charisma, not vibes, not self interests. Decisions made through trustworthy data.

Bernie got screwed because of the donors preferring Hillary, who was bogged down with so much baggage from Bill's 8 years. Name recognition was more important to them than finding a candidate opposite Trump, whose name recognition was offset by his narcissism and arrogance. America voted for an orange bully because the voters didn't know any better.

It does nicely highlight what America actually values, of course. Trump is doing what he's doing because schmoozing other billionaires is what will get him what he wants, and apparently all of our institutions are built to favor that outcome.
2
u/SonnierDick 1h ago
That is true. You would want him out helping people like Obama but then im like, but would I? Would I want this creepazoid around children? Or “helping”? We all know he wouldnt help anything or anyone but himself. Did we all hear the phone calls the other day? He would just spend all day at a childrens hospital calling all the kids beautiful and cute and wanna know how old they are.

just to preempt the usual comments:
He expanded wars
ARGUABLY He had to continue the war. The US had trade deals and was facing a recession, the military contracts that other nations signed with the US required US to remain and take the primary role in the wars in the middle east STARTED BY BUSH 7 years before.
Without those military contracts and the war economy, the recession would hit much harder than it did.
AS well as the drone programs were implemented because for years before the american people SCREAMED they wanted their children back and not dead in caskets flown home. The implementation of such new technology means a lot more operations and a lot more attacks and a lot more mistakes.
You can also argue that he was responsible for the death of civilians alongside those operations and attacks, but in war, in any war, civilian casualties are unavoidable. The fact is he followed the advice of generals and intelligence agencies to target high value targets who had initiated and organized attacks on civilians in their own country as well as other countries and Europe.
Leaving the middle east in 2009 would not have made things better. As we see now the area is falling back to barbarism and women are facing the brunt of the harm by being denied any and all forms of freedom.
And its not like Obama was told "Here is a schoolground of children do you want to bomb them?" and he went "YES!", he followed the intelligence and advise of multiple highly educated and experienced people.
Unlike trump who bombed almost twice as many targets in 4 years than Obama did over 8 years and also Trump deliberately instructed them to target civilians and families....
and just to give a perspective. Independent reports have stated between 5000 to 11000 civilians died under Obamas term, While under Bush over 400,000 to 700,000 civilians are recorded as died from the war. And Trump removed the requirement to disclose how many civilians died....
Bailed out the banks that wrecked everyone’s lives
Obama didnt bail out anyone. CONGRESS signed the deal to bail out the banks under Bush 4 months before the 2008 election...
Obama actually put in place multiple regulations to prevent banks from pushing those predatory loans that lead to the financial collapse of 2008.
Trump removed them and even more during his first term.
Biden reintroduced many of them during his term.
Trump has again removed those now and even more regulations, and primed the economy for another economic fallout like 2008.
reneged on the progressive rhetoric he used to get elected
During Obamas first year, democrats had supermajority for about 70 legislative work days before 2 democrats were hospitalized and 1 died and was replaced by a republican.
Democrats wanted to push for a single-payer healthcare system, but Liberman stood against them and there was little to nothing anyone could do against him. He was a independant who caucused with democrats.
So the option was to pass a healthcare system that was watered down and has helped tens of millions of americans survive, or to pass nothing at all...
If people had turned up in the special elections and the midterms of 2010 and given democrats more progressive seats, we could have seen more progressive moves.
didn’t fight hard enough for that SCOTUS seat
He wanted Garland to be the SC nominee. RGB didnt want that. She wanted someone who would follow her path of equal rights for women. By 2014 democrats lost the senate and Mitch McConnel manipulated and denied the seating of another supreme court judge.
Again because the people didnt turn out in the midterms.
deported the most people
They changed the definition of rejecting and removing people at the border as "deportation" add that alongside the simple fact of population growth, more accessible modes of transportation, economic instability from the 2008 recession. It would lead to higher migration and higher cases of deportations. What was done differently was that in majority families were kept together, people who were granted entry showed up to their court hearings at a rate of 98+%, and they didnt deliberately hold children in private prison facilities for as long as possible to ensure the private prison profited 720$ per day per child from tax-payers.
He got a nobel prize for bombing countries
The nobel committee gave him the prize in 2009 for his speeches for reaching across cultures and work to de-nuclearize tensions between russia/world. He lead the largest effort at the time to remove nuclear weapons and nuclear capabilities. The nobel committee also awarded him the peace prize because of their assumptions of the future progress. Many have received the peace prize for doing much more and many have received it for doing much less.
tldr: Obama made mistakes, he had flaws. But the things people blame on him are taken out of context, if not completely wrong like the bank bailouts...

It's what they were told to say/think (like 100% of all their opinions & talking points)
In truth Obama should have been every republican's favorite Democrat; he never did a thing about guns, he bombed the hell out of any suspected terrorists, he deported more undocumented people than trump could ever hope to...
But the propaganda apparatus in the US is unrelenting, potent, and racist as fuck

There's no point placating them, because no matter what you do, MSU and OSU fans are always going to hate on Michigan.
Same thing with Obama. No matter what he does, Republicans will always think he's the anti-Christ. It's gotten to the point I've stopped caring what they think about him. The only thing I care about is how history will remember him.

We used to be a proper country. And I’m not talking about politics. I’m talking about decorum, civility, and morals.
Even if the politicians didn’t live up to the standard, the people still expected a standard to exist.
But somehow millions now pride themselves and how severe the punishments can be for anyone they may not agree with. Legal - or better yet in their minds - not. While still trying to wave the flag and claim reverence for the constitution. Every action and every word of this administration and the MAGA movement in general in opposition to American principles

My thoughts as well.
Trump is so repulsive that many people are seemingly able to look past the fact that Obama is responsible for blowing up a bunch of kids, pregnant women, and other civilians.
Or maybe people just aren't aware. I didn't know how bad he was with his drone strikes until only a few years ago. I'm not American, but I still regret being so ignorant, and thinking highly of Obama.
With all that said, let's hope that Trump stays far away from children's hospitals or anywhere that children are likely to be because fuck that slug demon.

The Trump administration revoked a policy that required the government to publish the number of civilians killed in drone strikes outside of war zones, so we'll never know how much drone-delivered murder he's responsible for. From what I've gathered, it's a lot.
However, we have some idea (not complete, of course) of how many civilians (including kids) Obama blew up while in office. It's not a small number either. I don't think the words "dignity" and "civility" are appropriate for that.
